NINJA STAR RECORDS // BIO

Anthony Bollas

Composer, songwriter, and music producer. Founder of Ninja Star Records. Programmer and iOS app developer (SPLARNCH). Equal member of 8-Bit; wrote and composed Stranger.

Ninja Star Records is his label: releases, tools, and related projects run under that name. He is an equal member of the band 8-Bit and one of its principal songwriters. The band’s design is humble: creative credit is given to There-Mang — a robot persona featured as a vocalist on Ghettochip Malfunction — with the story that There-Mang makes the music. Members split shares equally; other members’ identities stay private on this site. DistroKid and BMI route through stage names, then to members (paperwork may show legal names where required).

Press documents 8-Bit’s work on Beck’s Ghettochip Malfunction (Hell Yes) (Hell Yes / GameBoy Variations EP) — built from vocal tracks rather than a conventional remix — as reported by Kate Sullivan in LA Weekly (“Hi, Robot!,” March 10, 2005). Rolling Stone and PopMatters later covered the Guerolito placement. XLR8R profiled the group in 2006. 8-Bit also tied for the 2005 LA Weekly Music Award for Hip-Hop/Rap (Los Angeles Times coverage of the awards). Tunefind lists the same master in Invincible (S3E6) and Extraordinary (S1E5).

He wrote and composed Stranger (Bootleg Theater; book by Eva Anderson and Keythe Farley). AboutTheArtists lists him among the creators and as composer. David Ng’s Los Angeles Times “Theater Beat” (June 12, 2009) called out the overpowering brass score and credited the music by Anthony Bollas; Variety also covered the production. The score received a 2009 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle nomination for Musical Score (Playbill).

Screen credit: original music for Heroes and Demons (TMDB: Original Music Composer). Other-artist studio credit: synth/engineering on KOOL SKULL’s Thrash All Day (feat. Robo-T) (Bandcamp).
